LEMON GROVE, California — Homicide investigators were in a Lemon Grove neighborhood overnight, working to determine what led to the death of a man found on the ground outside a home.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was first called to the neighborhood at about 9 p.m. when residents on Lemon Avenue reported hearing loud banging on their door, SDSO Lt. Rich Williams said.
The neighborhood is near a shopping center located south of State Route 94, north of Broadway and west of Lemon Grove Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they found a man lying on the ground outside the home with serious and visible injuries to his upper body. It was not clear what type of injuries he suffered.
The medics were trying to revive the man, but he was declared dead about 20 minutes after deputies arrived.
Williams said an autopsy would need to be completed to determine the man’s cause of death. The man’s name would not be released until family could be notified.
During the investigation, a sheriff’s department helicopter was seen flying overhead announcing it was looking for an armed male suspect with black dreadlocks wearing a grey jacket and black backpack.
A lieutenant at the scene said they could not confirm a suspect description because they have several possible descriptions.
Williams said the suspect is not known to them at this time.
A man in the area who used to live in the neighborhood said there’s a lot of crime and warned people to be careful when they come around.
There is no further informationĀ available at this moment.
